ISDN is very popular in Germany

In Germany, ISDN is very popular with an installed base of 25 million channels (29% of all subscriber lines in Germany as of 2003 and 20% of all ISDN channels worldwide). Due to the success of ISDN, the number of installed analog lines is decreasing. Deutsche Telekom (DTAG) offers both BRI and PRI. Competing phone companies often offer ISDN only and no analog lines.

However, these operators generally offer free hardware that also allows the use of POTS equipment, such as NTBAs[clarification needed] with integrated terminal adapters. Because of the widespread availability of ADSL services, ISDN is today primarily used for voice and fax traffic, but is still very popular thanks to the pricing policy of German telecommunication providers.

Today ISDN (BRI) and ADSL/VDSL are often bundled on the same line, mainly because the combination of ADSL with an analog line has no cost advantage over a combined ISDN-ADSL line. Some German operators started to implement Next Generation Networking, generally realized via DSL and unbundled local loop. However, a few operators offer the same services via the cable television infrastructure or, in selected areas, via FTTH. Because of the popularity of ISDN, virtually all these telecommunication providers bundle their products with residential gateways that include both integrated analog telephony adapters and ISDN-NGN adapters.

The development of optical communication technology

Optical communication and broadband, is the most current information on the development of active, is also the most important development of information technology infrastructure. Communications industry newspaper editor, a senior communications media people Xinpeng Jun believe that the current round of restructuring operators, the development of optical communication and broadband is facing unprecedented opportunities.     Xin Pengjun today at the "2008 China Development Forum, optical communication and broadband," said that with the construction of a new round of network traffic coming, not only optical communications market started to recover, and to FTTH, FTTB, represented by the technology to begin. "With the application of optical communication and optical communications business of Copper, promote broadband usage and penetration. Optical communication and broadband, is the leading telecom companies in China the focus of development, full-service operators after the reorganization of the development requirements to bring unprecedented opportunity. "     At the same time he also suggested that the choice of optical communication technology and development, business model development, and "broadband black holes" in the development of optical communications and other problems still need to be clearly and discussion.

What is Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers

The erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is the most deployed fiber amplifier as its amplification window coincides with the third transmission window of silica-based optical fiber.

Two bands have developed in the third transmission window – the Conventional, or C-band, from approximately 1525 nm – 1565 nm, and the Long, or L-band, from approximately 1570 nm to 1610 nm. Both of these bands can be amplified by EDFAs, but it is normal to use two different amplifiers, each optimized for one of the bands.

The principal difference between C- and L-band amplifiers is that a longer length of doped fiber is used in L-band amplifiers. The longer length of fiber allows a lower inversion level to be used, thereby giving at longer wavelengths (due to the band-structure of Erbium in silica) while still providing a useful amount of gain.

EDFAs have two commonly-used pumping bands – 980 nm and 1480 nm. The 980 nm band has a higher absorption cross-section and is generally used where low-noise performance is required. The absorption band is relatively narrow and so wavelength stabilised laser sources are typically needed. The 1480 nm band has a lower, but broader, absorption cross-section and is generally used for higher power amplifiers. A combination of 980 nm and 1480 nm pumping is generally utilised in amplifiers.

The optical fiber amplifier was invented by H. J. Shaw and Michel Digonnet at Stanford University, California, in the early 1980s.[1] The EDFA was first demonstrated several years later by a group including David N. Payne, R. Mears, and L. Reekie, from the University of Southampton and a group from AT&T Bell Laboratories, E. Desurvire, P. Becker, and J. Simpson.

Government signs deal to unlock Sh6b Chinese loan

The Government has signed a framework agreement with the Chinese Government with hopes of unlocking an additional Sh6 billion concessional loan to finance the National Fibre Optic Backbone Infrastructure (NOFBI) and e-government expansion project.

China is one of the major donors whose cumulative official development assistance to date amounts to Sh109.43 billion.

Early this month the Government signed a loan agreement with the Export-Import Bank of China amounting to Sh31 billion for the Olkaria Geothermal Field Production Wells Drilling and Supply of Drilling materials project.

Finance minister Robinson Githae said the signing of the framework agreement would pave way for the signing of the loan agreement whose draft is under review by the two governments.

In a speech read on his behalf by Permanent Secretary Joseph Kinyua, Githae noted that the proceeds of the framework agreement would be specifically applied for the construction of fiber links to connect Nairobi City with former provincial headquarters to the core ring network.

He said, via broadband, the fiber links would also connect 36 administrative districts.

Once completed, the project would provide a safer, more reliable, stable and efficient basic communication network for the Government and the Kenyan citizens, Githae told reporters at the Treasury offices in Nairobi yesterday.

Githae said implementation of the proposed project would improve the quality of the public service delivery and improve the decision. Githae called for further support from the Chinese Government in the implementation of the Lamu Port Southern, Sudan, and Ethiopia Transport Corridor (Lapsset) project.

What is Fiber Connector

Fiber Connector (Optical Connector) mate or connect with optical devices, modules, and fibers. It is one of the most essential components for optical communication. Fiber connector is also the key part used in fiber patch cord and fiber Pigtail.

While there are many different types of fiber connectors, they share similar design characteristics. There are three major components of a fiber connector: the ferrule, the connector body, and the coupling mechanism.

Ferrule -Two main Ceramic Ferrule sizes are used for Fiber Connectors. The ferrule OD size φ2.5mm is for ST, FC and SC Fiber Connectors. The ferrule OD size φ1.25 mm is for the MU and LC Fiber Connector Versions. PC or UPC or APC refer to how we polish the ferrule of the Fiber Connectors. Single mode fiber connectors can be with PC, or UPC or APC polish, while Multimode Fiber Connectors only with PC or UPC polish.

Connector body - this is a plastic or metal structure that holds the ferrule and attaches to the jacket and strength members of the fiber cable itself.

Coupling mechanism - this is a part of the Fiber Connector body that holds the Fiber Connector in place when it gets attached to another device. It may be a latch clip, a bayonet-style nut, threaded, push-pull and snap-lock or similar deviceLFO provides an array of Fiber Connector kits and Fiber Adapters for FC, SC, ST, LC, MU, MTRJ, E2000  configurations. We Supply Single-mode, Multi-mode, Angle-polished Fiber Connector assemblies with stable qualities that use high quality Ceramic Ferrules.

Besides Fiber Connector, we also offer Fast Connector (Field Assembly Connector or Field terminated fiber connector, quickly assembly Fiber connector) for field application.
