In recent years, along with the development of PON technology, “FTTH” is no longer a dream. As the mainstream optical access technology, EPON/GPON can meet the requirement of bandwidth in 20M to 50M, as faced of the bandwidth requirements of each household 100M to 1G, 10G EPON and 10G GPON will be the leading actors.
10G EPON was standard-setting from 2007, and finalized the international standards in 2009. At present, China Telecom is leading the development of China’s 10G EPON standard and strives to improve it. Under the auspices of the China Telecom's 10G EPON industry chain have developed rapidly.
Now the manufacturers which can provide FPGA technology chips including TK, PMC, Opulan and so on. In 2009, Huawei founded the world’s first 10G EPON experiment bureau in Shanxi Telecom. As one of the major makers of 10GEPON international standards, Huawei has already contributed 26 pieces of thesis to IEEE, thus Huawei gained the “Outstanding Contribution Award” which issued by IEEE in 2009.
